TOPROs rehabilitation programs
TOPRO is one of Norways largest vocational rehabilitation companies. In cooperation with NAV, the Norwegian unemployment and social services office, we offer people with disabilities or other challenges an opportunity to assess their situation through one or more of our programs.
Initial Assessment
The Initial Assessment program is a course that takes place over a 12-week period. During this time the participants first go through two weeks of tests, group assignments and personal guidance sessions to clarify what their opportunities, goals and limitations are. After that, they are offered a temporary placement within the company division which is best suited to them based on their personal preferences as well as the information gathered during the first two weeks. Some participants have physical or mental disabilities which limit their options and/or ability to stay in the same line of work as they used to, while others may be new to this country and need a place to work and be social while their language skills develop. Every participant is different, so it is very important that they all be given a good opportunity to find their own way. Some participants are unable to work on a regular basis and need disability benefits, but most are presented with several ways to go forward.
The way forward
After the initial assessment period is concluded, there are several ways forward for those who are ready to take the next step. Some examples of these are:
- A one year program available for those who need a bit more time to ease their way into the job market.
- A qualification program for people who would like to develop their skills within a specific trade.
- External work practice for those who want to work in a line of work not offered within TOPRO.
- Permanent work placement for people with disabilities or challenges which prevent them from finding work in the regular employment market.
Some participants also choose to combine their work at TOPRO with education. The people in the one-year program are offered tutoring to complete their basic education when needed, in order to make them eligable for entry to further studies. Norwegian language classes are held to help those who do not speak the language yet.
